Welcome to the 2nd C2 Newsletter,
The Summer Edition! Sorry for the delay in the
posting of this, As you may have noticed we have a
new website and it caused delays, OK, back on track. These past months have been hot
with activity, excuse the pun. The Scottish
Science show visited Anchorage Alaska to make some
giant snowballs. The ISS Show Resumed Filming
of their 2009 season in June and this years C2
Productions Road Trip was announced, Its in ROME!
Later this month the Internet
Scottish Science team will finish their 2009 season
with a bang by trying to build and use a raft built
entirely from soda bottles.
In August the entire C2
Productions team will be visiting Rome, Italy, for 6
days visiting top locations such as the Vatican,
Coliseum and Trevy Fountain.
Read on for full details on
all of these stories and a few more as we begin a

Scottish Science Update |

Season 3 started on the 16th of
May and with 9 full episodes filmed so far its been
a blast! This season so far we have been to a snowy
hill in Anchorage, Alaska, a hurricane machine in
Newcastle, England, and several trips up north to RAF Tain, Scotland. Team
1, composed of Jack & Graham have tested
so far:
- Can you
clean CDs/DVDs with toothpaste, bananas, alcohol and
others?
- What can you use to plug a hole in your boat while
at sea?
- Can you be killed by a giant snowball or can one
crush your car?
- Can an office chair explode and kill you?
- Can a bra deflect a bullet? (The wire inside)
- Can an iPod be turned into a deadly taser?
- Can a stop sign in a hurricane decapitate someone?
- Can you cut a bullet shot at you in two with a
sword?
- Can you remove the entire rubber from a cars tires
by shooting it?
- Can you then drive your car onto a train track
with no rubber and move at speed?

The Loch Near
Dundee Used During 'Hole In Boat'
We managed to catch Jack and
Graham and ask them what their favorite myth has
been so far and if they were shocked by any of the
results.
Jack: My favorite
episode has been the office chair. We had about 10
different chairs to explode on the bomb range and
there's nothing funnier than seeing standard chairs
going hundreds of feet into the air. The most
shocking result, without giving it away, was the
hurricane stop sign; totally gruesome.
Graham: Well, Jack will
be able to tell you my favorite, James Bond. The car
on the train tracks... perfect result! And, I think we
had a little too much fun with that episode, which
you'll see! Most shocking results would be the bra
deflecting a bullet story; however, the other team
did the story on a hair weave stopping a bullet the
episode before and that was far, far more shocking.
Team 2 with team
members Sam, Ed and Jock have had a year!
They have only completed 9 episodes because they
were real troopers! Ed and Jock spent 2 weeks in
porta-cabins outside C2 HQ to test 'Cabin Fever',
you can read more about it later in the article.
Myths tested by team 2 so far
are:
- Can you set
off a room filled with mousetraps by just triggering
one?
- Can you set off a fire sprinkler by throwing a
pencil at it?
- Is free energy real? Do these kits on the internet
actually work?
- Can a weave of hair stop a bullet?
- Does an umbrella increase your chances of being
struck by lightning?
- Can you reach 40mph by using jumping stilts?
- What happens if you're in a mobile home during a
hurricane?
- Does cabin fever exist?
We couldn't catch team 2 for a
quick chat, they and team 1 will be teaming up and
flying out to Russia in early July to test a real
explosive story. Find out what it was about in the
Autumn Newsletter!
You can read more about team
1's visit to Anchorage, Alaska, later in this
newsletter. |

Internet Scottish Science Update |
|
The ISS team, Harry & Rebecca,
restarted filming their 2009 season. The first
episode up involved rolling! Yes you heard
correctly, in the movies the badie pushes the good
guy down the hill and he seems to keep rolling! Is
it actually possible to stop yourself immediately
and get back up to fight?
The team visited the sandy hills
of the Leuchars Bike Track and both tried to
stop whilst rolling down the hill. You can find the
results out later next month when the episode is
available to watch.

'Mountain Falling' Gallery
After the rolling the next
myth up was about locks. On a TV show one can of
compressed air + lock + hammer = break through!
Simple!
Harry & Rebecca ran four
tests and were unsuccessful in breaking the lock.
You cant always believe everything you see on the TV
or Internet.

Finally the team
skipped Episode 5 for now and went to the final
episode, 'Bottle Raft', after doing the calculations.
A few months ago they discovered they'd need 50
bottles to float. Last week they built a 50
bottle raft and Rebecca got on it to check
stability.

Rebecca tests the 50 bottle raft - Click the image

Sadly the 50
bottle raft was both too small and very unstable.
After a day of thought they both came up with a
new design using 80 bottles. It would be built
in two layers instead of one and be much longer.
With raft 2.0
built and ready to test the rain came! That
however didn't stop them, testing went ahead in the
rain and Rebecca quickly confirmed the new raft
was much better and perfect for a River test!

After the 3 days
of testing it was time to go to the River and test
the raft for sure!

Rebecca smiles as she sits on 80 bottles in a cold
river.
After 2 days of
testing in the River it was time to head home.
Episode 5 had not
been filmed by the time the newsletter was written
however we will mention it in the Autumn Newsletter! |

Team 1 Visit Anchorage, Alaska |
|
Team 1 left for Anchorage,
Alaska, on the 26th of April for a 10 day trip to
test if Giant Snow Balls can kill someone or crush a
car. The testing was
simple, roll up a giant snow ball, place it at the
top of a hill and place the dummy and a car at the
bottom, then push! We almost lost a camera in the
giant snow rush, but thankfully spray painting the
tripods bright orange helped!
Alaska is a wonderful place
and when not testing with snow we visited the city
of Anchorage, The Oil Pipeline that
goes from the North of Alaska right down to the
South and finally we went and saw some real
Moose.
The Snow Ball myth will air
with Free Energy early in Season 3. |

The New C2 Productions Photo Gallery |
|
As you may have noticed C2
Productions has a brand new Photo Gallery system.
The old one had two options, Lo-Res or High-Res,
both used entirely different systems and it was far
from ideal. This new system allows us to simply plug
in a camera and type the Album name and it does the
rest automatically, adding the photos to the
website.

new system - Click the image to view the new Photo
Gallery
This benefits you greatly as
we're able to share far more photos more quickly. You can
find the new
Photo Gallery here.
It is powered by
Plogger so we thank
them greatly. |

What Lies In The Future For C2 Productions? |
|
C2 Productions runs two shows
'Scottish Science' which is for the UK only and
'Internet Scottish Science' the internet show
that is available globally.
For Scottish Science Season 3,
Shooting will finish in August and will be aired
from September to February. Season 4 has been
contracted and will contain another 30 episodes to
air in 2010.
The ISS Show hasn't such a certain future.
Surprisingly, it cost over £1000 for 6 episodes;
Mentos Live, The Rube Goldberg Machine and Summer
Sliding. The main costs were HD cameras. With no
return because the videos will be widely available
for free on the Internet, a new season of the ISS
show is uncertain. It all depends on YOU.
All 6 new episodes will be
available on YouTube in HD and depending on
viewing figures and feedback the show may or may not
return for new videos later this year or early 2010.
So please, when the videos are available next month,
watch them and share them with friends! Lets
together make the ISS Show successful on YouTube. |
